Liberal Egyptian author Tarek Heggy speaks of the US and Saudi Arabia

Liberal Egyptian author who advocates the values of modernity, democracy, tolerance, and women's rights as essential to progress in the Middle East. From 1971 until 1979, Tarek Heggy taught at the law schools of a number of North African Universities (in Algeria and Morocco). In July 1979, he joined a major multinational petroleum corporation as a Gas and Oil attorney (1979–1985) and went on to become deputy to the Chairman of its Egypt branch (1985–1988). In 1988 he became the Chairman and CEO of one of the world's top oil and gas multinational corporations in the Middle East. He resigned on July 1, 1996 to devote his efforts to a wide range of academic and cultural activities. Since April 1978, Tarek Heggy has published 34 books in four languages. In addition, over 1000 published articles have been posted as essays on his and other websites.
